About Me

I’m Max. I’m an AI engineer and community builder based in San Diego, USA. I’m currently the co-founder of Abel and previously worked at Casper Studios as a tech lead. The following should be useful for those looking to work with me.

I’m best described as a technical generalist. This means I try to be the best coder in a room full of PMs and the best PM in a room full of coders. I learned to code at 26 years old and have held roles as a data engineer, SWE, and AI engineer. I’ve also led technical teams. I enjoy managing and working on small teams of fewer than five people, and find this size to be highly effective and enjoyable. While I came to technical work later than most, I find this to be an asset, as I see software development from a different perspective than most from traditional technical backgrounds.

Excluding my first professional job, every role I’ve held has been client-facing. I find working with clients to be deeply rewarding, especially when they are equally invested in seeing the project through.

I get a lot of energy from putting on events but, ironically, am introverted by nature. I host monthly events for AI builders focused on learning about the latest developments in AI. I also run free workshops for underserved communities to help get people started with AI.
